Carla Jayne is an Edmonton-based singer-songwriter who uses her folk country roots to explore her connection to home and leaving it. Originally from Hanna, Alberta, her catchy melodies and timeless lyrics evoke the work of Sheryl Crow, Brandi Carlile and Joni Mitchell. Her FACTOR-funded debut EP, Chinooks and Sea Monsters, was recorded at Royal Studios and released in April 2024. It garnered radio play across Canada, including on CBC and CKUA, and earned a spot on the Edmonton Journal’s Fresh Tracks list of “The 10 must-listen albums from Edmonton artists in 2024”. The EP was praised as “highlight(ing) her deft songwriting talents and musicality” and as “enough to set her up as Edmonton’s next big singer-songwriter”.
Building her performance experience while completing a Bachelor of Music from MacEwan University, she has performed at many Edmonton venues, including the Works Festival, the Station on Jasper, CKUA, Skirtsafire Festival, and Flying Canoe Volant. In 2021 she was selected by Tiny Lights Festival out of Ymir, BC, to take part in their Ignites Series workshop. Graduating from MacEwan in 2023, she received the Victor-Osten Performing Arts Award as well as Best Traditional Studio Recording at the 2020 University of Lethbridge Audio Engineering Society Competition.
